How to remove grease stains from the kitchen (countertop and cabinets)

An inexpensive and eco-friendly kitchen grease stain removal product – does it exist? Yes, there is. We teach you how to make a homemade cleaner based on white vinegar, lemon and hot water with which you can clean all the grease that is embedded in the countertop and cabinets of your kitchen.

However, the product that cleans everything, that does not damage anything and that is also ecological exists, you can make it at home and it will become your favorite multipurpose cleaner after the first cleaning. Learn how to do it with us!

But first, avoid applying this multipurpose on kitchen countertops that are marble, granite or compact quartz . These materials are delicate to corrosive substances and if they are in contact with a substance such as vinegar for a long time they can lose their shine, so try to remove the grease from this type of countertop with pH neutral soap and warm water. For the rest of the materials, you can perfectly apply this solution.

preparation:

Pour a cup of very hot water, a cup of white vinegar, the juice of 1 lemon, and a splash of dishwashing detergent into the spray (optional) . Shake so that the products mix well.

On different occasions we have told you the wonders of white vinegar as a cleaning product or baking soda as a bleaching product , but we have never focused on cleaning the kitchen with a single product. Well, now we do it and share it with you.

With the formula ready, spray or spray the mixture all over the surface of your kitchen countertop and then all over the cabinets, both inside and out. Let the product sit for 5-10 minutes . The standing time depends a lot on the hardness of the fat. If the fat is very hard, you should let the product soften that fat.

This, for example, tends to happen a lot with the bottom of the cabinets , which are not cleaned often because they are not easily accessible. If you notice yellow stains on the bottom of your kitchen cabinets, it’s time to act.

Before you start cleaning, make sure you have two lint-free cloths, better if they are microfiber . If you don’t have cloths, you can use any lint-free cloth. One of the cloths will be used exclusively for the kitchen counter (since it is the one that accumulates the most amount of grease and dirt). The other cloth or cloth will be used to clean the kitchen cabinets. Let’s continue.

Cleaning grease stains from the kitchen

How to remove grease from the kitchen counter

If your kitchen countertop has not been cleaned in a long time, we recommend that you do the first cleaning of the countertop with kitchen paper. This will prevent the cloth from becoming impregnated with hard grease. Once the first layer of fat is removed, follow these steps :

  • 1. Apply a little more of the cleaner, dampen the cloth and begin to scrub all the surfaces of the countertop.
  • 2. Rinse the rag or cloth in cold water and spray the formula back onto the counter.
  • 3. Wipe again until all the fat is removed.
  • 4. Important, rinse the cloth with cold water and run it a third time. This is how we rinse the countertop and remove all the applied product.

The white vinegar is an excellent product to clean any surface and lemon juice will give that touch and smell “clean” we seek.

As we have already said, do not apply this formula on marble , granite or compact quartz countertops as they could lose their characteristic shine.

Kitchen cabinets also accumulate grease. If not cleaned, the grease hardens into yellow grease stains that are difficult to remove later. This grease is mainly located on the stringers or the outer face of the floor board. Another hot spot is the entire area surrounding the door handles or knobs. For effective cleaning, focus on these points.

If your kitchen cabinets are made of wood (solid or plywood) , apply the formula, let it act for a couple of minutes and clean with the cloth or cloth. In this furniture it is very important to rinse and dry with a chamois or cloth in the direction of the grain of the wood (if any). After cleaning, leave the cabinet doors open to allow them to dry well and avoid moisture.

If your kitchen cabinets are laminate or PVC , apply the formula and rub right away. Do it from top to bottom to avoid marks. Remember to rinse and dry with kitchen paper in the same way, always from top to bottom . If you notice that the fat is resisting, repeat the process.

The handles (polished) are also cleaned

Polished cabinet handles or knobs are best cleaned with hot water and a sponge. Remember that around it is where more fat accumulates, either due to contact with the fingers or because it is an area that is difficult to clean. Apply the formula around the handles and rub with a sponge or cloth.

On tiles it also works

Apply the same formula to clean your kitchen tiles . Rinse with a clean, lint-free cloth. You will immediately notice how the cloth captures accumulated dirt and grease. Rinse the cloth in cold water and run it through the blues again to clarify.

We love this multipurpose formula with white vinegar (cleaning) because it does not damage surfaces, it is inexpensive, it is environmentally friendly and it disinfects the surfaces of your home in depth.

Remember to wash the rags or cloths with a little soap and put them to dry for the next cleaning mission. Leaving the rags scrambled and damp will spoil them and create a bad smell in them. Therefore, we recommend washing them with soap, ammonia or a solution of white vinegar.
