How to remove scratches from glass

We teach you the best homemade tricks to remove, hide and eliminate scratches and scratches from the glass of a table or any glass surface. You just need to have one of these products on hand: petroleum jelly, toothpaste, glass wax, or a polish.

Assessment

The first thing you have to do is clean the damaged surface well. If it is a glass table, a window or the glass of a door, you can use your usual glass cleaner or make a solution of soap and water (it can be the soap you use to wash dishes). It will be much easier to remove scratches from a glass or glass surface if it is clean.

We show you 5 different ways to remove or hide scratches from a glass:

1. Toothpaste

To apply the first trick, have toothpaste on hand. With the glass clean, apply the paste to the scratched surface and spread it evenly with a clean cloth . Wait for the paste to dry and remove the excess product with a dry cloth. This is one of the best tricks to hide a scratched surface.

This homemade trick is highly recommended for the glass of the ceramic hob and the glass of tables or glasses of a door that do not present very deep or pronounced scratches.

2. Crystal wax

In drugstores, supermarkets or similar stores you can also find an ideal product to remove scratches from a glass. We are talking about crystal wax. Its effectiveness will be even greater than that of toothpaste. This glass wax is able to hide large glass scratches .

To apply this product it is essential to follow the manufacturer’s instructions, so you make sure to obtain greater effectiveness. The most common is to spread the wax on the glass and polish the affected area with a chamois until the product penetrates the scratches and improves their appearance. It is laborious work and it will take you a while.

If you are not satisfied, reapply the product , re-polish and wipe off the excess with a lint-free cloth.

3. Ammonia or ammonia liquid

It is also possible to remove or hide scratches from a glass with ammonia or ammonia liquid. It’s one of the lesser-known home tricks, but it works! Although, rather than removing the scratch from the glass, it hides it. Make a solution of half a liter of water with 15 milliliters of ammonia .

Then, dampen a microfiber cloth and, using a circular motion, apply it to the surface. When you’re done, dry the surface thoroughly, as if you were polishing glass.

4. Vaseline and baking soda

The properties of petroleum jelly and baking soda will act on the scratch, fill it in, and add a better appearance to the damaged surface.

To do this, mix 1 teaspoon of Vaseline (it can be liquid or gel) with 1 teaspoon of baking soda . Apply the resulting paste on the damaged surface, always in the opposite direction to the scratch .

Petroleum jelly alone is highly recommended for scratches on the screen of a mobile phone , tablet, or laptop . To do this, you just have to follow these steps:

  • 1. Clean the surface of the mobile, tablet or laptop well.
  • 2. With the help of a small spatula, add a little Vaseline on the scratch.
  • 3. Remove the excess and put the new screen protector. You can see the result right away!

5. Polish the surface

The last option, somewhat more expensive, to remove a scratch or scratch from a glass is by polishing the surface . The only drawback is that the entire piece has to be polished to make it even and, if the glass to be polished is very large, it can be a very expensive job. In any case, it must be done very carefully and following the instructions of the polishing tool.

In short, for small imperfections in the crystals you can opt for the most basic solutions, such as toothpaste, crystal wax or petroleum jelly and sodium bicarbonate . If the problem becomes greater, always go to a professional to put an end to the blemishes. Remember, for those heavily affected surfaces, these tricks may not be very helpful.
