How to remove stains from granite countertops and floors

Granite is a stone widely used both in floors and, especially, countertops. As it is very porous, it is important to act quickly. Let’s see how to clean it.

Although strong and durable, this natural stone requires special care to maintain its glossy finish for a long time. And above all, prevention is the key to perfect granite countertops .

As we have said, granite is a porous stone, so we will have to collect what is spilled as soon as possible so that it does not penetrate the surface. We will be careful to use coasters under beverages because the acids in soda and fruit juices fog and leave stains on the granite surfaces.

It is also not a good idea to leave very hot objects on the granite without the protection of a trivet or countertop , since the peeling can damage the appearance of the countertop.

For granite, warm water and liquid detergent

To clean it, we will use a warm water solution and a splash of liquid detergent . We will clean the surface with a well wrung cloth and rinse with another cloth soaked in clean water.

There are also specific granite cleaners to disinfect kitchen surfaces and we will avoid acidic cleaning products, such as vinegar, at all costs, as they can stain or tarnish the surface.

Every two years, we can call in a professional to reseal the granite , thus reducing its porosity and helping to preserve and maintain its original shine.

If, on the other hand, what we have is a granite floor, it is best to have it cleaned by a professional or cleaned with a specific product for this surface. Although, the truth is that daily maintenance is quite simple since sweeping and dusting is usually more than enough.
